Most non-profit board members are willing to serve on a board of directors because they have a personal interest in, or a social conscience about the particular area of service of the organization.This does not mean that s/he fully understands the scope of the organization’s operations, the roles and responsibilities of a non-profit board member, or the expectations of the CEO.
A recruitment package is usually a promotion kit designed to entice an experienced professional, community representative, or even former client to commit to the mission of the organization and do anything s/he can to further that mission. There is probably information about all the good work that is done by the organization and a job description for board members. That’s good information to attract new members. However, there needs to be a comprehensive orientation package so that these new board members have a full understanding of the role and responsibilities.
