Giving away old clothes or utensils to charity is quite simple and does not really require much thought. However, giving something like an automobile to charity is something which requires careful thinking and planning, lest the money goes into the wrong hands. Car donations to charities has become more of a business recently. There are some shady companies claiming to work for a charity but actually keep over half of the donated amount. This results in the charity organization getting very little of the actual donation.

Will a Car Donation Benefit the Charity?

Consider the agency receiving the car donation. Ask if the agent works for the charity or if they are a car donation mediator. The charity which handles their own donations will receive more benefit from the car. The money generated from the sale of the car would go directly to the charity instead of a portion going to the third party.
