In the 2008/9 season, Germany's Bundesliga overtook the English Premier League as the world's most profitable football league for the second time in three years, according to the annual Football Finance report by analysts Deloitte.

However, Premier League clubs generated 2 billion pounds (2.9 billion dollars) in revenues, the highest of "the big five" in Europe, followed by Germany, Spain and Italy (1.3 billion pounds each) and France (900 million pounds).

The total European football market grew to a record 13.4 billion pounds (19.4 billion dollars) in 2008/09.
